On 2 April 2019, the kick-off event of the KI-Hub Sachsen took place in Leipzig at Leipzig University’s Logistics Living Lab. Starting in summer 2019, the KI-Hub Sachsen will serve as a network for companies, research institutions and public administration and will bundle competencies in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The mid-term goal of the initiative launched by the Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI) is to accelerate the transfer of AI technologies into applications and thereby contribute to increasing value creation in the Free State of Saxony.
At the kick-off event, 16 representatives from science and industry signed a declaration of intent with the goal to jointly establish and commission the KI-Hub Sachsen. The signatories included the Leipzig University, the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK), the Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL), the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, AOK Plus, Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, the state-owned company “Sächsische Informatik Dienste” and several IT companies from Saxony.
In this context, SENERGY was also presented to the attendees as one of the Hub’s first research projects to demonstrate possible use cases and the potential of AI in terms of the development of smart energy services.
